Launceston Ghost Tours

Launceston deserves its nickname of The Haunted Capital of Cornwall, for the town boasts Cornwall’s most famous ghost story, most haunted house,  most haunted hotel,  most haunted castle and most haunted churchyard. Walking through our beautiful and historic town centre, we will show you all these sights, share all our true ghost stories, and leave you feeling thrilled and chilled in equal measure!

Elizabethan Dockacre House has been haunted since 1714, while mediaeval Southgate Arch, a prison during Tudor times, is now home to the ghost of a pickpocket called Dick. The Norman castle cries out with the spirits of witches burnt at the stake – visit these sites and many more, finishing with a drink in a hotel known to be haunted by at least thirteen different ghosts!

Age 12 and above, due to the nature of the event. Well-behaved dogs on leads welcome, as long as they promise not to bark and scare the ghosts away*. * Dogs aren’t allowed in the hotel ballroom so please check details with us when booking.

Tarosvan- The Cornwall Festival of Ghost Stories

Ghost in a Cornish village
Haunted Plymouth

Tarosvan is the Cornish language word for ghost or phantom.

Tarosvan – The Cornish Festival of Ghost Stories takes place in Cornwall’s ancient capital twice a year.

Launceston is often referred to as The Haunted Capital of Cornwall, and for very good reason: we boast Cornwall’s most famous ghost story, most haunted house,  most haunted hotel,  most haunted castle and most haunted churchyard. Walking through the beautiful and historic town centre, one can barely pass an old building without there being a ghost story attached.

Held each March and November, the Southwest’s only festival of this kind involves a host of activities and events, including ghost hunts, ghost walks, paranormal investigations, author events, book launches, ghost stories told in haunted pubs by knowledgeable local experts, writing workshops and much much more.

The next festival takes place over the weekend of 19 – 22 November. Click below for more details.
